ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Parliamentary Secretary for Interior and Narcotics Control Maryam Aurangzeb on Friday said that 105 premises were sealed and a total of Rs 6,445,000 was imposed on food outlets for violation of food safety laws in federal capital during last year.

Replying to a question in National Assembly, she said that the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Administration was carrying effective campaigns for last five months to check hygienic and adulteration in food items in Islamabad.

She informed the house that a total of 57779 restaurants, bakeries, cafes and other eateries were inspected last year.

During the campaign, 105 outlets were sealed, 4325 kg meat confiscated, 48 restaurants and bakeries challaned under Pure Food Ordinance 1960 and 712 challans submitted in the courts under Sanitation Rules, she added.

Maryam said the Health Department of ICT administration was making daily visits to check the quality of food being sold on small and big restaurants of the city.

Samples were sent to food labs to check their quality, she maintained.
