ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Ministry of Ports and Shipping will soon start Pakistan-Iran ferry service to provide comfortable and affordable travelling facility to the people and devotees.
Karachi-Gwadar and Karachi-Iran ferry services would start functioning.
“The services will promote tourism and also generate economic activity in the region,” an official in the Ministry told APP.
He said the ministry had taken this initiative on the directive of Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif last year to expedite the ferry services.
Following the directive, Minister for Ports and Shipping Kamran Michael has taken initiatives to the service, he added.
Efforts were being made to strengthen ports and shipping sector in a proper manner. The people would enjoy safe journey for religious and general purposes, he added.
To a question, the official said that two more ships were being purchased to enhance business activity in the region.
He said a committee was established to ensure transparent procurement of more ships and in this regard, process of recommendation would be completed shortly.
