ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif on Wednesday reaffirmed Pakistan’s full support for peace and stability in Afghanistan.

It happened when General Sharif on his way back from Tajikistan on Wednesday made a brief stopover in Kabul where he attended the Change of Command Ceremony for the Resolute Support Mission and met with top Afghan leadership.

In a series of tweets, the Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Asim Saleem Bajwa said that the COAS held a meeting with the Afghan President Ashraf Ghani at the Presidential Palace in Kabul. He also separately met the US military leadership including United States Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (CJCS) General Joseph Dunford, Commander US Central Command (CENTCOM) General Lloyd J. Austin and Resolute Support Mission Commander General Nicholson.

The focus of the discussion was regional security, border management and operational coordination of Shawal Operation to check terrorists trying to flee across the border into Afghanistan.

The meetings reviewed and expressed their optimism for positive outcome of reconciliation process being pursued through the ongoing Quadrilateral Coordination Group (QCG) framework.

The COAS reiterated Pakistan’s whole hearted support to the Afghan leadership for peace and stability in Afghanistan while the later acknowledged Pakistan army’s efforts and achievements in war against terrorism, and its role for bringing regional peace and stability.
