ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Parliamentary Secretary for Interior Marriyum Aurangzeb on Wednesday informed the National Assembly that Pakistan has dual citizenship agreement with only 16 countries while Malaysia was not included in it.

Responding to a Calling Attention Notice raised by Sher Akbar Khan and others regarding charge of fine in dollars from Pakistani families who have Malaysian citizenship in case of their overstay in Pakistan, she said under the agreement, a person seeking Malaysian citizenship has to renounce Pakistani citizenship and it was on reciprocal basis.

She said no fee was charged for extension in stay in the country from Pakistani origin Malaysian. However, under the rules, all such people are bound to apply for overstaying in Pakistan, she said.

Marriyum said there were various categories for fine on overstay. However, she said no one was above the law and fine was being charged on violation of the rules. No discrimination was being carried out with any one, she added.

Earlier, Sher Akbar and Aisha Syed demanded the government to issue five years multiple visas to all such Pakistani origin Malaysian.

Meanwhile, Chairman Standing Committee on Law and Justice Mahmood Bashir Virk presented the periodical report of the committee for the period July-December, 2015 as required by rule 234A of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the National Assembly, 2007.
