KARACHI, Pakistan: The Thailand’s Ambassador to Pakistan Suchart Liengsaeengthong has said that the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between Thailand and Pakistan is likely to be concluded this year.

Talking to the members of the press at the Thai Royal Consulate General in Karachi on Tuesday, the Thai envoy said that there exists scope to double the volume of bilateral trade between Thailand and Pakistan.

The envoy said that once the FTA is signed between the two countries, it will also facilitate trade and help in promoting business ties between Pakistan and Thailand.

The Consul General Suwat Kaewsook and Honorary Trade Adviser of Thai Government in Pakistan, Arif Suleman, were also present on the occasion.

The Ambassador said that friendly relations between Thailand and Pakistan would further be strengthened.

Suchart Liengsaengthong pointed out that at present, the trade volume between Thailand and Pakistan is to the tune of one billion dollars. He was of the view that there exists a lot of room for enhancing economic and commercial ties.

The envoy said there is a scope that bilateral trade between the two countries can be doubled to two billion dollars in the next three years’ time.

He also highlighted the role of private sector in enhancing trade ties between the two countries, as the exchange of delegation of traders’ organizations would help in selecting products for importing from one another’s countries.

The Ambassador said that holding of conferences and promotion of tourism would also prove beneficial in bringing the people of the two countries closer.

He also spoke of improved law and order situation in the metropolis which would help spur trade and economic activities.
