ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: A total of 1126 inmates have died in jails in different parts of the Country during the last three years, the National Assembly was informed.
When asked by Seemi Bokhari about details of inmates provided medical treatment and those who died in jails, the Minister for Human Rights Dr Shireen Mazari told that in the last three years, 884 inmates died in Punjab jails, 150 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa jails, 80 in Sindh jails and 13 in Balochistan jails.
As per the human rights minister, 10364 inmates were provided medical attendance and treatment in Punjab during the last three years; 25185 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 7745 in Sindh and 2487 in Balochistan.
Shireen Mazari further informed that the government endeavors to provide best possible health facilities and treatment to ailing inmates by appointing medical officers, budget for medicine, pathological and radiological tests, required gadgets and machinery e.g; xÂrays machines, dental units etc. and even surgical care at the relevant hospitals.
The minister also said that the Ministry of Human Rights and National Commission for Human Rights (NCHR) take notice of the condition of inmates in jails and conduct visits of jails in different parts of the Country. She said that the Ministry of Human Rights arranges visits of different prisons in order to monitor human rights situation of inmates in jails.
