ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: About 148,000 new cases of cancers are diagnosed every year in the country while breast cancer has been the most common in females.
The Ministry of National Health Services, Regulation and Coordination said that overall, the average breast cancer frequency remains at 25 percent in the country.
For breast cancer detection, ultrasound of the breast and mammograms are available at all tertiary care hospitals.
The federal government has constituted a cell on Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) and recently survey conducting by NCD in Pakistan to see its risk factors and apart from genetic factors disclosed unhealthy diet, obesity and tobacco use of cancers.
The ministry also said that the estimated number of Thalassaemia patients in the country is 100,000 and it is estimated that every year about 6,000 new Thalassaemia births occur in the country.
