PESHAWAR, Pakistan: As many as 155 schools in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were either fully or partially damaged by the powerful earthquake of October 26 that wracked havoc to educational infrastructure in five districts of the province.

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Spokesman told on Thursday that till 10am today 155 schools in five districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were damaged.

Tank is the worst affected district in term of devastation to schools by the earthquake where 53 schools damaged either fully or partially.

Similarly, 45 schools affected in Dir Upper, 34 in Lakki Marwat, 15 in Bannu and eight in Swabi districts.

The survey of the losses caused to educational institutes is in progress and final estimates pertaining to funds requirement for its repair and reconstruction would be submitted before the government very soon, the spokesman added.

The PDMA spokesman said that the Federal government as well as the Provincial government was working hard to provide relief to earthquake victims and expressed the hope that the compensation amount announced by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for affectees would enable them to rebuild their destroyed houses before arrival of the cold harsh weather.
