LAHORE, Pakistan: An under construction factory collapsed in Lahore on Wednesday evening that left at least 24 labourers dead while 102 persons have so far been rescued safely from the debris.      

The District Coordination Officer (DCO) Lahore Captain (retd) Muhammad Usman told media that roof of a four-storey building of a plastic bag factory located in Lahore’s Sundar Industrial Estate fell. However, the cause of the roof collapse is not yet known.

The DCO said that the rescue operation is underway, adding that all available resources are being utilized to carry out the rescue and relief operation.

The Rescue 1122 spokesman told that nearly 200 labourers are trapped inside the building.

Meanwhile, more than 30 injured persons have been shifted to hospitals whereas emergency has been declared in Jinnah Hospital, Lahore General Hospital and the Sharif Medical Complex to facilitate the injured.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has expressed grief over casualties in collapse of factory building in Lahore. He directed the Punjab government to beef up rescue efforts.

The Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has also expressed his heart-felt condolence on the death of the factory workers. He ordered an inquiry and sought report of the tragic incident.

The Chief Minister directed to provide the medical facilities to the injured. He also directed to gear up the rescue operation.
