ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Minister for National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination has told the National Assembly that there are a total of 165,000 HIV Cases in Pakistan, the Dispatch News Desk (DND) news agency reported.

In reply to a question by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) lawmaker in the House Sheikh Fayyaz Ud Din, the minister apprised that however 24,331 HIV patients were registered in HIV Treatment Centres till March 31, 2019 as per the latest data.

The minister told that 2,424 patients were registered with HIV Treatment Centres in the Federal Capital, 12,202 in Punjab, 6,867 in Sindh, 2,004 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and 834 in Balochistan.165,000 people found with HIV positive in Pakistan

Furthermore, the minister also told that House that the government has taken following steps to create awareness among the people to control HIV.

  • Engagement with healthcare providers to provide HIV education and awareness among the health service delivery staff.
  • Community awareness sessions to educate the general public about HIV prevention, modes of transmission and treatment.
  • Preparation and dissemination of information, education and communication material in Urdu and local languages.
  • Key population-specific community prevention and awareness interventions.
