HERAT: At least 17 Afghan civilians were killed in various incidents of terror attacks in the war-torn country, officials said on Saturday.
According to reports, nine persons lost their lives when an insurgent attacked on a road construction workers’ camp in Karukh district in the western province of Herat overnight.
“The Taliban attacked their camp along the Herat-Badghis road while they were asleep last,” Abdul Rauf Ahmadi, provincial police spokesman, said. The workers were employed by a government-owned road construction company, he said.
In another incident, five civilians including women and children were killed and three others injured in a roadside bomb in the southern province of Helmand province on Saturday morning.
“A van hit a roadside bomb in the Marjah district of Helmand killing five civilians and wounding three,” Omar Zwak, the Helmand governor’s spokesman, said.
Similarly, three women were killed when an IED (improvised explosive device) exploded in Musa Qala district of Helmand on Friday, a police spokesman said.
