ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: As many as 182 government servants entered into the plea bargain with the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) from 2002 to 2013, the Senate was told.

Reply to a question seeking details of all those corruption cases involving government servants where the accused volunteered to return embezzled funds and was granted the option of plea bargaining by the NAB from 2002 to 2013, the Minister for Law and Justice Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar told the House that 182 government servants entered into the plea bargain during the said period.

Sharing the region-wise date, the minister told that 52 government servants availed the option of the plea bargain in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 48 in Rawalpindi, 40 in Lahore, 21 in Balochistan, and 18 in Karachi.

The law minister further apprised that an amount of Rs 1556.881 million were recovered by the NAB through the plea bargain in corruption cases.

The minister told that Rs 629.513 million were recovered in Rawalpindi, Rs 410.616 million in Lahore, Rs 240.999 million in Karachi, Rs 225.937 million in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Rs 49.817 million in Balochistan.

To another question, Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar said that in the light of the zero-tolerance policy towards corruption of the government, the NAB is striving hard to eradicate corruption through its three-pronged strategy of awareness, prevention and enforcement.

The House was told that the NAB recovered an amount of Rs 141.542 billion in 2019, Rs 323.299 billion in 2020, and Rs 91.195 billion in 2021.
