2018 will be the election year in Pakistan: PM Nawaz

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: In contrast to what the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) deems that 2015 is going to be an election year in Pakistan; however, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has apparently ruled out such an occurrence.

Imran Khan-led PTI has been staging a sit-in in Islamabad since mid-August as well as holding public gatherings across the country in protest against rigging in the 2013 general elections. The PTI is also demanding an independent investigation into electoral rigging in last year elections.

The PTI Chairman Imran Khan hopes that maintain pressure will force the incumbent federal government to carry out an independent inquiry into electoral rigging which will eventually lead to fresh general elections next year.

“2018 will be the year for the citizens of Pakistan to judge every party on the basis of their performance and they will have a chance to vote in or vote out any party,” the prime minister said in a statement issued on Saturday.

The prime minister said that all political forces have stake in the democratic system.

“We all know that loyalty to the constitution is an imperative for us and it is no more an issue of choice,” he said.

Sharif said that no system is perfect but constitution and parliamentary democracy are the only tools to remove imperfections in the existing system.

Moreover, he said the present government will give a better and prospering Pakistan when we will enter in to election mode in 2018.
