RAWALPINDI, Pakistan: As many as 3,400 terrorists have been killed and 837 hideouts from where they were carrying out their terrorists activities have been destroyed under the military operation Zarb-e-Azb, according to the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR).

In a series of tweets on Saturday, the Director General ISPR Lieutenant General Asim Saleem Bajwa said that one and half year after start of operation Zarb-e-Azb, phenomenal successes were achieved. He said that last pockets close to the Pak-Afghan Border are being cleared.

Bajwa told that terrorist’ backbone was broken, its main infrastructure was dismantled while nexus with sleeper cells was largely disrupted. He said that the Intelligence based operations (IBOs) continue to burst remaining sleeper cells.

The DG ISPR told that a total of 3,400 terrorists were killed while 837 hideouts from where they were carrying out their terrorists activities were destroyed. He said that during last 18 month over 13,200 IBOs were carried out across the country in which 183 hardcore terrorists were killed while 21,193 were arrested. He said that the IBOs still continue.

However, he said that success came at a heavy price as 488 valiant officers and men of Pakistan Army, Frontier Corps (FC) and other law enforcing agencies sacrificed their lives while 1,914 were injured in the operation Zarb-e-Azb.

In addition, a total of 11 military courts were established across the country. He said that 142 cases were referred to military courts in which 55 cases were decided, 87 cases are still in the process whereas 31 hardcore terrorists were convicted.

Bajwa said that support of the entire nation for its valiant armed forces and resolve expressed against terrorism in the post 16 December Peshawar Army Public School (APS) attack have been bed rock of Zarb-e-Azb.

Moreover, he said that overall improvement in security and law & order situation across Pakistan owed to the operation Zarb-e-Azb. He said that by virtue of Zarb-e-Azb, festivities and national events were celebrated while stability across the country is being achieved.
