QUETTA: Four more newly-elected councilors were kidnapped on Thursday by unknown gunmen from Dasht tehsil of Kech district in restive Balochistan province, making the already tense situation worse for the security agencies ahead of upcoming local government polls in the province.

A levies official said that all four councilors, hailing from Balnagor union council and identified as Javaid Iqbal, Abdul Qadir, Saleem Baloch and Behram, were on their way when 13 unknown gunmen intercepted their vehicle in an area of Dasht tehsil and took them away to an unknown location.

It was the second incident of kidnapping newly-elected councilors in Balochistan within 24 hours as two councilors, who had been elected unopposed from Kech district, were kidnapped on Wednesday.

The levies sources said that two councilors belonging to national party and identified as Zafarullah and Abdul Rauf were intercepted by five men on motorcycles when they were returning home in Kadan area of Dasht tehsil and kidnapped.

The local bodies elections in the Balochistan are scheduled to be held on December 7 under strict security conditions. However, all candidates in district Kech have already been elected unopposed.
