ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: As many as 42 senior bureaucrats have allegedly been involved in water theft in the Federal Capital, according to an initial report prepared by Capital Development Authority (CDA) and Metropolitan Corporation of Islamabad (MCI).

The report was prepared after the completion of a joint operation launched by CDA and MCI on August 23 against illegal electricity, gas and water connections in bureaucrats’ houses located in G-6, F-6, G-8, I-8 and G-10 Sectors.

It was part of the first phase carried out to implement the Islamabad High Court’s (IHC) which had issued directives to remove illegally installed motors as well as electricity, gas and water connections in bureaucrats’ houses, according to Daily Nai Baat.

The report revealed that in G-6 Sector, illegally installed motors were found in houses of 42 senior bureaucrats. These illegal motors had been installed in F and G type houses of various sectors.

During the operation, official residences of grade-17 to grade-22 officers were inspected.

The report further revealed that those who were found involved in water theft included Deputy Secretaries, Professors, Police Officers, Director Federal Tax Ombudsman Zia Mehboob, Director Finance Division Abdul Hameed, Superintendent of Police (SP) Islamabad Zubair Hashmi, SP Saqib Sultan, Deputy Secretary PM Office Dr Asif, Assistant Professor Model College F-6/3 Shaukat Ayub, Deputy Superintendent Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Laal Khan, and Superintendent Establishment Division Khalid Ahmed Chaudhry among others.

However, no proof of gas and electricity theft was found during the operation.

The daily reported that CDA has formed a special team comprising officials of Enforcement Directorate of CDA, Sanitation Directorate, and other Staff members to ensure the implementation of IHC’s orders.

The CDA Officials told that following the completion of inspection in F, G and Category II government houses in the second phase, operation to remove illegally installed water motors and connections would begin from September 9 in Category E official residences.

The performance report prepared to implement Court’s orders would be submitted in IHC on September 11.
