45 killed, over 200 injured in rain-related incidents in Peshawar, nearby areas

PESHAWAR, Pakistan: At least 45 persons were killed while more than 200 others sustained injuries in rain-related incidents in Pakistan’s northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

As a result of torrential rains and heavy storm, 29 persons were killed in Peshawar, eight persons in Charsadda while seven persons lost their lives in Nowshwera.

The casualties also included women and children, which were caused by the collapse of several houses in various areas of the province.

The injured were shifted to Lady Reading Hospital Peshawar and district headquarters hospitals of Charsadda and Nowshera, where an emergency had also been declared.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, who is in London, made a telephonic contact with the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Chairman Major General Muhammad Saeed Aleem and directed him to expedite rescue activities in the rain affected areas.

The Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pervez Khattak directed management of the hospitals to provide proper health care to all the injured people.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has announced compensation of Rs500,000 for each family whose member is killed in the rain and storm. Similarly, each injured person will receive Rs50,000.
