PESHAWAR, Pakistan: A target of 5.24 million children has been set for the last anti-polio campaign of the year starting from December 17 in all districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa except Swabi district where children under five years of age would be vaccinated amid tight security arrangements.
This was informed in a readiness meeting of the upcoming campaign held here at Emergency Operation Center (EOC) KPK.
Coordinator EOC Akbar Khan stressed on utilizing all available resources to ensure improved quality of the campaign with specific focus on tracking and coverage of missed children.
He emphasized on effective monitoring in the low performing districts of the province in order to address the core issues and bring visible progress in teams’ performance leading therefore to improved coverage of missed children.
Earlier, the chair was informed that a total of 16,442 teams including 14,115 mobile, 1507 fixed, 746 transit and 74 roaming teams have been formed to reach out to the target population of 5.242 million in the upcoming anti-polio drive.
The chair was told that meetings of Union Council Polio Eradication (UPEC) Committee and District Polio Eradication Committee (DPEC) have been held in all union councils of the 24 campaigning districts.
Similarly, trainings of union council supervisory staff, area-incharges and teams have been conducted while vaccine and other logistics have been received and dispatched to all the districts.
It is pertinent to mention here that provincial task force meeting and security coordination meetings have been held on December 4 and 7 respectively to review the readiness status and security situation prior to the campaign wherein important decisions have been taken to ensure safe and conducive environment to the teams.
