KARACHI, Pakistan: In a powerful blast that occurred in Karachi’s Sher Shah area on Saturday, at least 14 people were killed while 15 further suffered injuries.

Police Officials said that the explosion took place in a drain located beneath a two-storey building at Gulbai Sher Shah Paracha Chowk.

The building had a Private Bank and other Business Offices.

They said that the explosion caused damage to the bank as well as a nearby petrol pump.

Several vehicles were also damaged in the blast.

The Officials said that the accumulation of gases in the drain is suspected to be the cause of the blast.

The casualties also included Dilawar Khan, the father of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) MNA Alamgir Khan, according to the Prime Minister’s Special Assistant on Political Communication Shahbaz Gill.

Meanwhile, the Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah took notice of the blast in the drain.

The Chief Minister directed the Karachi Commissioner to launch an investigation into the incident and submit a report as soon as possible.

Murad Ali Shah also expressed regret on the deaths and ordered to facilitate the affectees at hospitals.
