ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Senate was informed on Wednesday that 87 civilians embraced Shahadat and 407 were injured as a result of Indian ceasefire violations at the Line of Control (LoC) and Working Boundary from January 1, 2010 to October 22, 2015.
To a question of Senator Samina Abid, Ministry for Foreign Affairs, in a written reply, informed the House that the Azad Jammu and Kashmir government provides compensation to the Shaheed and the injured under the Ceasefire Line Incidents Relief Act.
It said that family of the martyrs is provided Rs.300,000 each, permanently disabled Rs. 200,000 while Rs 100,000 each is provided to the injured.
About details of efforts made by the government to stop these violations, the ministry informed the house, Director General Pakistan Rangers held a meeting with DG Indian BSF in New Delhi from September 9-12, 2015 to ensure peace and tranquility along the Working Boundary. Both sides agreed to increase interaction for containing incidents of ceasefire violations.
The reply said Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif proposed a four-point peace initiative to establish peace with India in his address to 70 session of the UN General Assembly. The Prime Minister also raised the issue in his meeting with UN Secretary General on the sidelines of the UNGA session and urged him to make UNMOGIP more active in observing ceasefire on LoC and Working Boundary.
The Foreign Ministry informed the Upper House of the Parliament that Pakistan has raised the Indian ceasefire violations in the UN Security Council. “Our permanent representative to the UN has written a letter to the President of the UN Security Council. It was emphasized that prolonged hostility at the LoC and the Working Boundary was vitiating the already tense atmosphere between India and Pakistan and was a matter of great concern. The UN Security Council was urged to impress upon India to restrain and refrain such violations.
The Indian High Commissioner and Deputy High Commissioner have been summoned several times to the Foreign Office and strong protests lodged.
The Advisor to the PM on Foreign Affairs has briefed the Ambassadors of P-5 countries about Indian ceasefire violations. The Advisor also raised the issue in his meetings with foreign ministers of other countries during his visit to New York.
Last year the Advisor wrote a letter to the UN Secretary General urging him to play active role in impressing upon India to stop ceasefire violations at LoC and the Working Boundary.
