ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Ministerial Committee for Construction of Diamer-Bhasha Dam Wednesday informed that around 90 percent land for the construction of dam had been acquired.
The meeting was attended by Minister for Kashmir and Gilgit Affairs Barjees Tahir, minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal, minister for Inter Provincial Coordination, Mian Riaz Hussain Pirzada, minister for Overseas Pakistanis Pir Sadaruddin Shah Rashdi, Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan Hafiz Hafeez-ur-Rehman, chairman WAPDA Zafar Mehmood, federal secretary of Kashmir Affairs and Chief Secretary of Gilgit-Baltistan.
The committee apprised that entire land of the dam for the storage of water had been acquired while instruction had been issued for obtaining of remaining 10 percent land.
It was decided that the welfare, development, health and education projects initiated under confidence building measures in the area will be monitored by the Gilgit-Baltistan government. Wapda will provide reacquired funds for the projects.
It was also decided that the ministry of interior will be requested for the provision of security at the site.
The chief minister of Gilgit-Baltistan informed the committee that Rs 10 billion had been saved during the procurement of land.
The committee appreciated the performance of Gilgit Baltistan government.
