ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Signal Free Islamabad Expressway would have unique facility of a segregated lane for the motorcyclists to increase road safety and ensure uninterrupted traffic flow. 

Islamabad Expressway will become the first major avenue of the country provided with this facility, said Chairman CDA, Maroof Afzal during his visit to review the development work of the project on Monday.

He was informed that segregated lanes for motorcycle and bicycle riders had been tested and scrutinized in many countries and proved a successful experience for maintaining road safety and smooth traffic flow on the roads.

Labour force and machinery has been doubled to meet the deadline of November 30, 2015 for completing the first phase of the project from Zero Point to Faizabad.

The chairman was informed that pillars of I-8 sectors had been erected and slabs on the bridge would be placed in next few days, while development work on remaining two loops was in full swing.

He was also apprised that alternative routes had been demarcated to facilitate the mammoth traffic flow on Islamabad Highway.

Chairman CDA said that Islamabad Highway was one of the major arteries for access to the Capital city with ever-growing traffic, adding that its expansion was the dire need of the hour for easing the amassed traffic flow.

He said the signal free expressway corridor would be provided with all modern road facilities.  He added that Islamabad Highway expansion project would be completed in stipulated time on priority to facilitate the commuters.

Maroof Afzal also directed for completion of work on the drainage system and retaining wall along the newly constructed lane.

He further directed the formations concerned for early completion of environmental work on the project to protect and preserve green character and ensure its proper horticulture development, especially green belts and median strips.

Member Administration and Estate Amer Ali Ahmed, Member Engineering Shahid Sohail and senior officers of Engineering Wing were also present on the occasion.
