LAHORE, Pakistan: Dense fog blanketed several cities of Punjab, on night between Tuesday and Wednesday and disrupted air traffic.

The fog also affected flow of traffic at the Motorway and other highways. The Motorway has been closed from Lahore in early hours on Wednesday owing to zero visibility.

Pakistan Meteorological Department said, the most parts of Punjab are expected to experience a spell of dense fog in days to come because of persistent dry weather, decreasing temperature and high trend of humidity in the air. It said, there was no chances of rain in the country during next week.

On Wednesday, two international flights were diverted to other airports after new landing system at the Allama Iqbal International Airport failed to assist in dense fog.

A Qatar Airlines flight 628 from Doha was diverted to Karachi while a private airlines jet 413 was instructed to land in Islamabad. Both the flights were Lahore-bound, however, the international airport could not help amid fog.

The motorway police have appealed to the drivers to switch on fog lights and drive at very slow speed. They have also requested people not to use mobile phones while driving.

Maximum temperature in Lahore was recorded 23 degrees celsius.
