KARACHI, Pakistan: The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif has lauded the Rangers, intelligence agencies and other law enforcement agencies (LEAs) for noticeable improvement in the security situation in Karachi through ongoing operations.
The appreciation came when the COAS visited the Corps Headquarters in Karachi on Monday to chair a meeting to review the security situation in the City and the rest of Sindh.
The army chief also applauded the LEAs whose worth-praising performance helped the holding of local government elections in Sindh including Karachi in a peaceful manner.
The meeting was attended by the Corps Commander Karachi Lieutenant General Naveed Mukhta, Director General (DG) Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Lieutenant General Rizwan Akhtar and the DG Rangers Major General Bilal Akbar.

The COAS will also attend a high level meeting at the Governor House in Karachi to review important matters with emphasis on law and order situation.
The high level meeting will be presided over by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and will also be attended by Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad, Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Home Minister Sohail Anwar Sial and top military officials and the heads of other lEAs.
The issues regarding the proposed extension of Rangers’ deployment in Karachi as part of the operation against criminal elements will also be discussed during the meeting.

Meanwhile, while addressing after witnessing Fire Power demonstration of Pakistan Air Force (PAF) at Sonmiani range in Balochistan today, the prime minister reaffirmed the unwavering determination of the country to combat terrorism.
The prime minister said that Pakistani defense forces are fully prepared to meet any challenge to national security and said PAF has a key role in counterterrorism operations with close cooperation of Army.
Sharif pointed out that the threats faced by the country today are not traditional and these should be viewed in the global and regional environment.
Appreciating the combat readiness and professionalism of the air force, he said the significance of air power and its role in achieving strategic objectives has increased manifold in contemporary era. He said that the bravery, professionalism and enthusiasm of our air warriors clearly reflect that PAF is second to none.
The prime minister further said JF-17 Thunder fighter jet is our national pride and assured that the government will extend all possible assistance to augment the PAF capability. He said that he was confident that it will continue to live up to the expectations of the nation.
