Health5-day anti-polio drive kicks off in Rawalpindi

RAWALPINDI, Pakistan: A five-day anti-polio campaign kicked off in the entire Rawalpindi district on Monday to cover more than 750,793 children below five years of age, Executive District Officer (EDO) Health Dr Arshad Ali Sabir informed that the immunization campaign was in full swing.

He said staff deployed for the campaign has been issued special instructions and informed that no negligence in this regard would be tolerated.

Dr Arshad informed that 1696 mobile health teams were operating in the district to complete the task of immunization.

He said that polio drops were also being administered at 291 health centres in order to ensure that all children should be immunized.

The EDO urged the citizens, particularly the parents, to come forward and play their role for the elimination of the crippling disease from society. “The parents should cooperate with the special teams so that the set target could be achieved.” He said continuous efforts were being made to control polio.

Special teams have also been formed to cover areas from where complaints about unattended children are registered, he said, adding that special arrangements have also been made to cover Cantonment Board areas of Rawalpindi.
