ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Director Generals of Military Operations (DGMOs) of Pakistan and Afghanistan made a first contact on Wednesday after a hotline was established between them, according to the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR).
In a series of tweets, the Director General ISPR Lieutenant General Asim Saleem Bajwa said that the first contact between the two DGMOs was made as per decision taken during the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif’s recent visit to Afghanistan.
Bajwa said that both the DGMOs discussed military to military issues, modalities and dates of meetings between Corps Commander of the two sides.
The DGMOs of Pakistan and Afghanistan also discussed measures to enhance coordination along the Pak-Afghan border, Bajwa said.

On December 27, the COAS paid a day-long visit to Kabul as part of efforts to revive the stalled dialogue process between the Afghan government and the Taliban groups for bringing lasting peace in the region.
The COAS held meetings with the Afghan President Ashraf Ghani and the Chief Executive Dr Abdullah Abdullah in Kabul, and held discussions on mutual security related issues including information sharing, coordinated counter terrorism operations on respective sides and way forward for Afghan peace process.
The two sides unanimously agreed to convene a four-nation conference on Afghan peace in January next year. In addition, they also agreed to enhance border security and reconnaissance.
