ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: As many as 32,600 cases of Dengue fever were registered and 129 deaths were recorded across the country during last three years.

An official of the Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination told APP that in 2013 a total of 20,710 cases were registered and 104 people died due to Dengue fever, in 2014 about 1,991 cases appeared while 18 patients died and 9,899 cases were registered while seven people expired in 2015 due to this fever across the country.

He informed that 261 cases and one death appeared in Islamabad, 2,683 cases and 9 casualties in Rawalpindi District, 6,241 cases recorded and 26 persons expired in Punjab, 8,797 total cases and 49 deaths in Sindh while 14,562 total cases and 43 deaths were registered in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa due to Dengue fever during the same time period.

He said Dengue cases are being reported from over 100 countries across the globe, saying during 2015, most of the cases were reported from August to October and a total 1,470 cases reported in Rawalpindi.

The Ministry concerned had taken various steps for the prevention and control of Dengue fever including issuance of advisory, guidelines on Dengue fever, provision of free of cost diagnostics and genotyping facilities for Dengue cases at NIH, training on rapid response teams in provinces and awareness seminars etc, he added.
