ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) has introduced a new model of open-schooling for dropout girl students, who could not continue their study due to social or financial constraints.

According to project project Dr Tanzeela Nabeel, the university would continue such female non-formal education programmes to fight illiteracy in the country’s less developed regions.

The AIOU took the lead in preparing entire course for class sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth and tenth in the local language that facilitated the female students to get them educated, said a press release.

According to AIOU Vice Chancellor Dr Shahid Siddiqui, the pilot project could be adopted by the local governments and private institutions to educate the dropout students.

The pilot project of open schooling had successfully been started in cooperation with Plan international at Chakwal, Vehari and Tehsil Sajawal (Thatta District), he added.

Dr Siddidui said it was a matter of great pride that the largest number of female population was beneficiary of the AIOU’s education.

They were 57 percent of their total enrolment, he added.
