BAGHDAD: At least 18 people were killed and 80 others were injured on Friday after bomb blasts ripped through four Shi’ite mosques in the Iraqi cities of Baghdad and Kirkuk, police said.

The explosions took place in quick succession rocking the Baghdad as well as the northern Iraqi city of Kirkuk just as worshippers were leaving after Friday prayers.

A local health official told that at least three people were killed while 70 others sustained injured after a car bomb detonated near the al-Rasul al-Aadham mosque in Kirkuk.

The bomber drove his explosive-laden car into a group of worshippers as they were leaving the mosque, Col. Najat Hassan said.

“We were listening to the cleric’s speech when we heard a very strong explosion. Glass scattered everywhere and the roof partially collapsed,” Mohammed, a victim wounded in the Kirkuk blast, said.
