ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) Sheikh Ansar Aziz has been elected as first-ever Mayor of the Federal Capital Islamabad, according to unofficial and unconfirmed results.
Sheikh Ansar Aziz received 49 votes while the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI)’s Raja Khurram Nawaz got only 26 votes.
Likewise, the PML-N’s nominees Chaudhry Riffat Javed, Syed Zeeshan Ali Naqvi and Muhammad Azam Khan have also been elected as Deputy Mayors of Islamabad.
The PTI candidates for Deputy Mayors were Fouzia Arshad, Raja Zulqarnain and Ali Nawaz Awan.
Earlier, polling for the first-ever mayor and three deputy mayors of the Federal Capital concluded in a peaceful matter at the Jinnah Convention Centre in Islamabad.
The elections were held through secret ballot and the polling continued till 05:00 pm without any break. The already elected chairpersons from 50 union councils of the Federal Capital along with 27 members from reserved seats cast their votes to elect mayor and deputy mayors.
