ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Pakistan Agriculture and Research Council (PARC) has spent Rs 6.65 million on research work during last one year, said an official of PARC here.

Talking to the state-run news agency, he said that PARC acquired and distributed germplasm of wheat 196, pulses 1155, rice 23640, maize 5194 and fodder 549 to various agricultural research institutes for evaluation and varietal development.

Candidate line of wheat 40, rice 16, maize 93, oilseed crops 80, pulses 64, sugarcane 12 and fodder 67 were tested in NUYT, he informed.

He said in adaptability trials, rice hybrids 50, miaze 104, S.S hybrids 10 and millet hybrids 6 were tested. PARC produced certified seed of canola 15 tons, soybean 90 tons, wheat 20 tons and mungbean 30 tons during 2015, he added.

The official added that the seed of wheat, canola, soybean and mughbean are suitable for major production areas of these crops. However, these varieties are most suitable for Pothwar region.
