LAHORE, Pakistan: The Dolphin Force has been established to wipe out terrorists and criminals from the provincial capital, Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif said on Thursday.

Addressing the passing out ceremony of the first batch comprising 688 officials of Dolphin Force at Police Training Center Chung, he said Muslim community was facing challenge of terrorism therefore it should join hands to eradicate the menace.

Terming the establishment of Dolphin Force a remarkable success, he said that it was the first batch of Dolphin Force which would help in controlling crimes and combating terrorism.

The chief minister thanked the Turkish President for extending cooperation in training of the new force.

Dolphin Force would chase the criminals at all roads, streets and congested areas of metropolitan with a spirit to make the lives and properties of Lahorites more secure and safe.

Addressing on the occasion, Inspector General of Police Punjab Mushtaq Ahmad Sukhera said that the launching of the force would not only help control crimes at street but also improve patrolling and picketing system in city.

The IGP said all civilized nations keep on modifying their forces to control the network of criminals, adding that the dolphin training has been completed in two phases within a period of 120 days with the cooperation of Turkish police instructors.

He said that the first batch has been handed over 300 heavy motorbikes with 550 helmets, besides, all required accessories and gadgets. He further said that a separate police line for the Dolphin Force in the area of Walton will be completed very shortly and in all divisions independent dolphin force offices will be set up.

According to dolphin force SOPs a squad of two motorcycles having four officials would perform duty added, the IGP.

Mushtaq Sukhera also thanked the Government of the Punjab for its outstanding cooperation and trust in the Punjab police for launching such a unique and first ever patrolling force of the country.

Later, the IGP presented a special souvenir to the chief minister Punjab.

Iranian, Chinese and Turkish Consulates, Law Minister Rana Sana Ullah, Provincial Minister Begum Zakiya Shahnawaz, Punjab Government spokesman Zaeem Qadri, Chief Secretary Khizer Hayat Gondal, Home Secretary Major (R) Azam Suleman, Secretary Information Momin Agha, DCO Lahore Capt. (R) Muhammad Usman, members of National and Provincial Assembly and senior police officers were present on this occasion.
