Government of PakistanFederal govt has nothing to do with Panama leaks: Nisar

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan said on Wednesday that the federal government has nothing to do with Panama leaks, adding that Hussain Nawaz and Hassan Nawaz will respond themselves to allegations of offshore companies.

In a press conference in Islamabad on Wednesday, that minister urged the opposition to not to target the government under the garb of Panama leaks.

The minister said that the government is ready to investigate the matter in consultation with opposition parties, adding that in case opposition wants a Federal Investigation Agency (FIA)-led probe, we also agree on it.

Five former SC judges refused to probe Panama leaks

The interior minister said that the federal government contacted former Supreme Court justices including Justice Nasirul Mulk, Justice Tasadiq Jilani, Justice Amirul Mulk Mengal, Justice Sahir Ali and Justice Tanvir Ahmad Khan after Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif announced the formation of judicial commission to investigate allegations of offshore companies.

However, Nisar said, all of these judges after taking the time to think over the matter refused to head the commission.

Nisar questioned that if the government was not interested in transparency, why would we go ahead and request these renowned judges for heading the investigation process.

The minister said that due to politicking and criticism without reasons, many respectable former judges excused themselves from heading the commission.

Nawaz Sharif went to London for medical treatment

Talking about Sharif’s visit to the United Kingdom, the minister said that the prime minister has gone to London for medical treatment not for medical check-up.

The minister said that the prime minister is visiting London for a long over-due medical treatment and will be back to Pakistan after doctor’s advice. He said that the prime minister has cardiac problem for the last few months and he has been getting treatment from London.

The interior minister regretted that some politicians, educated and civilized people and intellectuals are indulging in conjectures and doing politics on health conditions of the prime minister.

Nisar categorically rejected that the prime minister is visiting London to meet any political figure.

Talking about Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) rally on April 24 to mark its Foundation Day, Nisar said that the government was ready to allow the PTI to hold a rally anywhere in Islamabad other than Red Zone.

The minister said that there is a complete ban on any political activity in Red Zone and we can sit together with the PTI to discuss the venue of their rally.
