KARACHI, Pakistan: Seven police personnel were killed when unknown assailants targeted them in two different areas of Orangi Town in Karachi on Wednesday.
In the first incident, unidentified motorcyclists opened fire at three policemen when they were escorting a polio team at Disco Morr in Orangi Town. Later, four more policemen were killed while they were in a police mobile van in Bangla Bazaar.
The Director General Rangers Major General Bilal Akbar visited Orangi Town and announced that joint investigation would be carried out by the Rangers and Police into the incident.
Talking to media, the DG Rangers asked people to remain strong and not be frightened. He expressed the resolve to apprehend the culprits as soon as possible and also said that preventive measures would be taken to avoid such incidents in the future.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan strongly condemned the firing on police personnel in Karachi and offered their condolence to the bereaved families.
In his statement, the prime minister said that sacrifices of police in the entire country in general and reviving peace in Karachi in particular are unparalleled while the interior minister also took notice of the incident and asked the IG Sindh to submit a report in this regard.
