RAWALPINDI, Pakistan: President Mamnoon Hussain Thursday said disaster management institutions and their personnel need modern techniques to cope with natural calamities to address these issues effectively.
The President said this while addressing the inauguration ceremony of the Surgeon General’s International Conference 2016 organized by the Army Medical College and Surgeon General Pakistan.
The President said the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM) face such situations often and bear the foremost responsibility to cope with natural disasters and accidents.
“It is necessary to arrange regular training programmes for these institutions,” he said.
President Mamnoon said that in this regard it was imperative to benefit from the knowledge and practices being applied in the contemporary world.
The President said Pakistan was among the countries where natural and unnatural disasters occur more frequently.
However, he said it was a matter of great satisfaction that Pakistan’s institutions were capable of ably dealing with such situations.
The President said these institutions have set good examples of immediate and effective response not only in Pakistan but also abroad.
President Mamnoon also lauded the services of the officers of the Army Medical Corps.
