ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The textile exports from the country witnessed negative growth of 7.72 percent during the first ten months of the current fiscal year compared to the corresponding period of last year.

The textile exports during July-April (2015-16) were recorded at $10.395 billion compared to the exports of $11.265 billion during July-April (2014-15), according to the data of Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).

The textile products that contributed in negative growth of textile trade included cotton yarn, exports of which dropped by 32 percent from, $1.590 billion last year to $1.081 billion during the current fiscal year.

Similarly, the exports of cotton cloth declined by 9.89 percent, from $2.086 billion to $1.879 billion while the exports of raw cotton decreased by 47.70 percent, from $144.693 million to $75.672 million.

The other products that contributed in negative growth of textile trade included cotton (carded of combed), exports of which decreased by 97.71 percent and yearn (other than cotton yarn) which witnessed decrease of 23.17 percent in exports.

Likewise, the exports of knitwear decreased by 1.91 percent, bed wear by 4.34 percent, tents, canvas and tarpaulin by 25.08 percent, art, silk and synthetic textile by 12.61 percent, madeup articles (excluding towel) by 1.67 percent.

The textile products that witnessed increase in exports during the period under review included towels, exports of which grew by 0.37 percent while the exports of all other textile products increased by 7.73 percent.

Meanwhile, on year-on-year basis, the textile exports during April 2016 decreased by 3.48 percent.

The textile exports in April were recorded at $1.033 billion compared to the exports of $1.070 billion in April 2015.

On month-on-month basis, the textile exports from the country decreased increased by 3.07 percent in April 2016 when compared to the exports of $1.002 billion in March 2016, the data revealed.
