ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Federal Minister for Climate Change Zahid Hamid has said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is keen to implement Green Pakistan program.

In a meeting with the delegation of 6th ECO environmental meeting that is going on in Islamabad under the Environmental wing of Ministry of Climate Change, the minister said that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N)-led federal government wants to implement Green Pakistan Program.

‘The government of Pakistan is intending to plant 100 million trees under this Green Pakistan program project. We are paying attention to parks and wildlife as well,” the minister said.

“We are preparing specific climate Change policy to deal with all these issues.”

The delegation which included participants from Iran, Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, and Turkey was also informed about the working and domain of the ministry.

“We are contributing 0.8% of total carbon emissions but most vulnerable country to climate effects. We lost more than 1200 people during last years as a result of heat wave issue. We had great economic and physical loss in 2010 floods. We are also water scarce country”, Zahid Hamid said.
