NewsYaum-ul-Furqan being observed on Thursday

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Muslims across the country were observing Thursday (Ramzan 17) as “Yaum-ul-Furqan” to commemorate the great battle of “Badr”, which took place on 2 AH.

Furqan designated by Holy Quran in Surah Al Anfal signifies distinction between right and wrong, the truth and untruth, and also means the standard and criterion to judge between the truth and falsehood.

The first war between the Muslims and the atheists took place in Badr, (60 miles from Madinah towards Makkah) on 17th of Ramzan in which the Lashkar-e-Islam comprised 313 persons and only two of them had the horses and only six were laced with Zarah.

The atheists, on the other hand, were many times high in number, about 100 had horses while the whole Lashkar was laced with complete weapons.

Abu Jehal, who was the Sardar of their Lashkar was killed along with 70 atheists while 14 Mujahideen from Lashkar-e-Islam embraced Shahadat.

Allah Almighty has termed this day as “Youm-e-Furqan”.

The Meccans were strong, and pound of their wealth and their position.

To fight them, strategy was required. Muslims under the leadership of the Great Prophet Muhammad PBUH were in small numbers, but with these forces one of the decisive battles of the world was fought at Badr in A.D.623, the second year of the Hijrah, the Muslims were inspired by faith, they never doubted for an instant that they would win.

They swept the Meccans off the field. It was a great victory.

Many prisoners were taken and much booty, but he prophet PBUH showed great diplomacy and foresight; rejecting vengeful advice, he held the Meccans to ransom and treated them well.
