ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: China, Korea and Turkey have extended their full cooperation for Pakistan to uplift the National Vocational and Technical Training sector in the country by utilizing their expertise.

The trio to take up co-projects like building the Center of Excellence, teacher’s training programme and to upgrade National Training Bureau into a state of the art vocational university.

An official of the National Vocational and Technical Training Centre (NAVTTC) told the state-run news agency Thursday that these countries commended the steps taken by NAVTTC to equip the youth with technical skills.

The said countries also assured to provide all out support in technical field to boost the TVET sector of Pakistan.

He informed that Turkey has excelled in the field of construction and hospitality and have earned worldwide recognition in these trades.

To improve the existing training system and standards of vocational institutes of Pakistan, Turkey’s ensured its full cooperation particularly in the fields of automotives, textile designing, milk processing, packaging and marketing, industrial goods, construction and hospitality.

To promote the linkages and partnership in technical & vocational sector, he said, the Korea will cooperate Pakistan.

NAVTTC has achieved a milestone by bringing a paradigm shift in TVET delivery in Pakistan, he remarked.

Official added the role of NAVTTC as an apex body at the national level mandated to regulate and framing the policies and providing directions to all stakeholders of Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) sector in the country.

He said this cooperation would benefit NAVTTC to learn from the experience and quality of vocational training standards of developed countries.

In this regard Chairman NAVTTC said that “we are facing certain challenges to attract young people towards technical and vocational education as the general perception of people is still focused on acquiring conventional education”.

To counter this dilemma and to change the mind set of young people, NAVTTC arranged skill competitions throughout the country which not only added to their honor and prestige but also many graduates were offered jobs on the spot.

Cheema added that NAVTTC is engaged in utilizing the untapped potential of youth in the right direction so that they become productive citizens and contribute towards socio-economic development of the country.

He emphasized that technical and vocational education is the gateway to country’s peace and progress adding, our top priority is to build state of the art institutes of international standard and to have top quality instructors for technical training.

Zulfiqar Cheema informed NAVTTC has started many initiatives to introduce reforms in the current TVET system of Pakistan including establishment of Job Placement Center etc.

The Executive Director also seeks support of China in technical sector as the CPEC would open new vistas of prosperity and development and ensure employment opportunities for the people of Pakistan.

He also urged China to enhance their collaboration to reboot the TVET system in Pakistan.
