NationalOIC condemns killing of protesters by Indian forces in occupied Kashmir

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has strongly condemned the killing and injuring of peaceful protesters by Indian forces in occupied Kashmir.

In a statement, the OIC Secretary General Iyad Ameen Madani expressed his sorrow over the loss of innocent lives while they were holding peaceful demonstrations against the killing of top Mujahid commander Burhan Wani, and deplored the use of force by Indian forces on the peaceful protesters in occupied valley, Kashmir Media Service reported.

He called for a thorough and expedient investigation into the killings.

The OIC Secretary General noted with regret the Indian attempt to malign the Kashmiris’ legitimate freedom struggle by equating it with terrorism.

He expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and wished the wounded speedy recovery.

Meanwhile, the OIC’s Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission in a statement said that the use of excessive force against innocent civilians, protesting peacefully over extrajudicial killings, was deplorable and a blatant violation of the right to life, right to freedom of expression and opinion, right to peaceful protest and assembly and other fundamental human rights.

It said that extrajudicial killings and abrasive human rights violations should stop forthwith.

“There should not be any impunity for human rights violations. An independent, fair and transparent inquiry should be conducted against the individuals responsible for these killings and culprits must be held accountable at all levels,” the statement added.
