ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) has approved a proposal by Ministry of Interior for construction of model prison at H-16 in Federal Capital.
The project which will cost Rs 3928.523 million received nod of approval at ECNEC meeting held under chairmanship of Federal Finance Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar in Islamabad.
The Ministry of Interior has already purchased a piece of land measuring 720 kanals in Sector H-16 from Capital Development (CDA) for construction of model prison for the capital.
The prison will have the capacity to house over 2,000 prisoners. A boundary wall to secure the area from encroachments has already been constructed by the Pakistan Public Works Department (PWD).
The idea to construct a modern prison for the Capital Territory in Sector H-16 was conceived by the local administration.
For this purpose, it has been studying the construction designs of various prisons inside and outside the country having latest design as well as facilities.
