ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Sheikh Aftab said Friday land acquisition for construction of Havelian-Thakot section of China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project was in final stages.
Speaking in the Senate during question hour, the minister said the Chinese company-M/ s China Communication Construction Company had started construction of contractor’s camps at various locations.
He said the contractor was under mobilization and the construction work would start shortly after completion of mobilization formalities and would be completed within stipulated time period of 42 months.
Answering another question, the minister said a proposed length of the road from Taxila to Haripur via Khanpur was 42 km. He said one single span bridge was under construction.
For remaining portion 13 Kms, the minister added design had been completed and required fund allocation approved.
He said tendering process had been started, adding it may take minimum four months for execution of desired work.
Replying to another question, the minister said National Highway Authority (NHA) had only undertaken ShatialThor Nullah Bypass Project as deposit work from (WAPDA), other infrastructure including access roads are being executed by WAPDA.
He said the bypass will be required after construction of Dam and its reservoir and construction of project had already been started with progress 30 progress.
The completion date was May 22, 2016 but the work on the project was halted mainly due to boundary dispute between KPK and GB Regions since September 16, 2015.
Similarly, he added there were land Acquisition issues.
He said NHA had conducted various meetings with WAPDA and other stakeholders various options were being considered to resume construction activities.
