ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Malik Habib Khan said army would only be called as a quick response force to cope any law and order situation during the general elections.

Addressing a news conference in Islamabad he said in normal situation Police‚ Rangers‚ Frontier Corps‚ Frontier Constabulary‚ Pakistan Coast Guards and Gilgit-Baltistan scouts would perform their routine duties to maintain law and order.

Interior Minister said effective security would be ensured in consultation with Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and Provincial Governments to avoid any untoward incident.

The Interior Minister said he would soon hold meetings with all the Chief Ministers and Heads of Law Enforcement Agencies to prepare a strategy to ensure trouble free elections.

The Minister  said all the pending cases about issuing of passports shall be cleared during this month.
