ANKARA, Turkey: Turkey has re-assured Pakistan of its support in the development of energy sector in the South Asian country.

In a meeting with the Federal Minister for Water & Power and Defence Khawaja Muhammad Asif on the sidelines of the 23rd World Energy Congress in Istanbul, Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim re-assured the Pakistani delegation of Turkish government’s support in the development of energy sector in Pakistan and encouraging Turkish companies to play an increased role in the process.

The Turkish prime minister also thanked Pakistani leadership for showing strong solidarity with Turkey.

Khawaja Asif thanked the Turkish prime minister and people of Turkey for standing by Pakistan at a time when there is a tension on the Eastern borders and appreciated Turkey’s consistent support for the Kashmir issue. He also felicitated Turkish leadership on emerging even stronger after the attempted failed military coup of July 15.

Pakistan’s Consul General in Istanbul Dr. Yusuf Junaid was also present in the meeting.

The federal minister is in Istanbul at the invitation of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to attend the 23rd World Energy Congress being held from October 9-13, 2016.

Presidents of Russia, Azerbaijan, Venezuela, Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and energy ministers of many countries are also attending the meeting.
