ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif on Monday attended the golden jubilee celebrations of Frontier Works Organisation (WHO) at Thalian near Islamabad toll plaza on motorway.
While speaking on the occasion, the COAS said that FWO has played central role in spearheading Army’s contribution in all nation building efforts. He said that over the years, FWO has developed into a strategic organization with tremendous capability to deliver projects of national significance.
In addition to numerous Hydel and mining projects, construction of Karakoram Highway (KKH), Central Trade Corridor through Waziristan to Afghanistan, Coastal Highway and now over 1000 Kilometers CPEC Roads are some of their signature projects, he said.
The army chief said that going into inaccessible areas to connect the remotest parts of the country with mainland, highest quality work in least time have been its hallmark.
The COAS congratulated them on accomplishing the unthinkable and vowed for whole Army to continue working for security and prosperity of the country.
General Raheel COAS paid tributes to 1300 officers and soldiers of FWO for laying down their lives during execustions of various national projects since their raising in 1966.
Earlier on arrival at Thalian, COAS was received by Engineer in Chief Lt General Khalid Asghar and DG FWO Major General Muhammad Afzal.
