Republican Donald Trump wins US Presidential Election 2016

 

WASHINGTON: The Republican Donald Trump was elected as 45th US President after he secured decisive lead over Democrat Hillary Clinton in key States of the United States as a result of 58th US presidential election held on November 8.

The 70-year-old Donald Trump won 290 electoral votes out of 538 while Hillary Clinton bagged 228 votes.

It is pertinent to mention here that 270 out of 538 electoral votes are required to be elected as the US President.

While addressing his supporters at campaign headquarters in New York City, the newly-elected US President Donald Trump said that his rival Hillary Clinton telephoned him and congratulated him on his victory.

“I’ve just received a call from Secretary Clinton,” he said. “She congratulated us, it’s about us, on our victory.”

Trump said that his election campaign against Hillary Clinton was very tough.

“Now, I am the President of all Americans. I will serve people of Americans without any discrimination of colour, race and religion,” Donald Trump said.

The latest results show that Donlad Trump won in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Pennsylvania, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Dakota, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, West Virginia, Wyoming and Alaska.

On the other side, Hillary Clinton won in California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Washington DC, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island, Virginia and Vermont.

The voting for the US President Election 2016 was held in all 50 States and Washington DC on November 8 in which about 140 million US Citizens out of an eligible population of 220 million cast their votes across the Country.

Meanwhile, the former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton who if wins over businessman Donald Trump will become the US first female President thanked fellow Americans for their support.

On the other hand, share markets have collapsed and the dollar tumbled against the yen and the euro as Donald Trump looked on course to win the race for the White House. The Mexican peso also fell to a record low as safe haven assets rallied, with gold soaring more than five percent.
