ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali on Tuesday once again didn’t rule out formation of a Commission in Panama Case while both the petitioners and defendants claimed to come out as victorious in the end.
The five-member bench of the Supreme Court headed by the Chief Justice heard the Case in Islamabad on Tuesday during which, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Counsel Naeem Bukhari and Chief of Awami Muslim League (AML) Sheikh Rasheed concluded their arguments before the bench.
Naeem Bukhari observed that the prime minister’s daughter was gifted Rs 50 million and Rs 31.7 million on two separate occasions by her father Nawaz Sharif. He also said that Maryam didn’t pay any utility bills.
The PTI’s Counsel argued in court that Nawaz Sharif’s tax returns from 2011 showed that Maryam Nawaz was his dependent.
The counsel of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Salman Butt, submitted before the bench that Maryam Nawaz was not dependent on his client. He referred to the income tax returns as well as the nomination papers filed by his client in 2013, saying all details about properties were declared in them and nothing was withheld.
The Supreme Court Judge Asif Saeed Khan Khosa asked three questions that how did the prime minister’s children create their companies? Is Maryam Nawaz dependent on someone? And did the prime minister tell the truth in his three speeches on Panamagate?
In his remarks, the Chief Justice said that if considered appropriate, the commission would be constituted for investigation into Panama papers.
Later, the Court adjourned hearing of Panama Papers Case till Wednesday (tomorrow).
Talking to media after the hearing, the PTI Chief Imran Khan said that the PTI had done its work as now the Supreme Court sought proof from Sharif family.
“We proved that Nawaz Sharif told lie to the nation,” Imran said adding that if PTI workers did not come out, Panama leaks issue would disappear.
Imran Khan also congratulated Naeem Bukhari and his team over their excellent performance in the Case.
On the other hand, Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb said while talking to media outside the Supreme Court that PTI always levelled baseless allegations without any solid proof. She advised the PTI leadership to withdraw the case as it was completely baseless.
Maryam Aurangzeb said that Imran Khan was doing politics for power as he himself admitted that he would will pursue his development policies after coming to power.
Separately, Minister of State for Capital Administration and Development Division Tariq Fazal Chaudhry said while talking to media that Sharif family would get a clean chit in Panama Papers Case in the Supreme Court as PTI had failed to provide any evidence.
Tariq Fazal Chaudhry said that PTI’s politics was based on lies and the prime minister would emerge victorious in Panama case.
