ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Pakistan has called upon the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) to refrain from any step that undermines the prospects of regional peace and stability.

On February 12, North Korea conducted a successful test of a new type of medium-to-long-range ballistic missile, capable of carrying nuclear warhead.

In a statement in Islamabad on Tuesday (February 14), the Foreign Office said that the latest missile test conducted by the DPRK is a violation of the United Nations Security Council resolutions.

The Foreign Office said that Pakistan has consistently supported a nuclear weapons free Korean Peninsula as agreed by all parties.

“It calls upon the DPRK to refrain from actions which run counter to the objective of reaching a peaceful and diplomatic solution to the issue within the framework of the Six Party Talks,” it said.

The 15-member UN Security Council also strongly condemned North Korea over its latest ballistic missile launches and warned of “further significant measures” if Pyongyang doesn’t stop nuclear and missile testing.
