Islamabad, Pakistan: The Principal Information Officer (PIO) of Pakistan Rao Tehsin Ali Khan has served defamation notices to certain television channels and newspapers those are constantly trying to defame Tehsin who is one of the most senior most bureaucrats of government of Pakistan, reports a local news agency.

According to details, certain newspapers and private television channels are trying to implicate Rao Tehsin in Dawn Leaks scandal in which it is said that certain parts of discussion among top civil and military leadership regarding the security of the country were deliberately leaked to media. A story was published in English daily Dawn under the title “Act against militants or face international isolation, civilians tell military” on October 6, 2016. The then Federal Information Minister Senator Pervaiz Rasheed submitted his resignation after his name was being appeared in newspaper as possible source of leakage of information. Rasheed said that he would refrain from holding official post unless facts came on surface.

According to sources, the probe into incident had already been done and committee heard the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Syed Tariq Fatemi, Foreign Secretary Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry, former Information Minister Senator Pervaiz Rashid, Advisor to Punjab chief minister Muhammad Malick and PIO Rao Tehsin and final report has been sent to government for official release.

Sources said that report has already cleared Rao Tehsin but certain newspapers and television channels are trying ti implicate him in this sensitive issue.

In his defamation notice, Rao Tehsin said that stories appearing in newspapers and private television channels are (were) harming his reputation and stories are fabricated, unfounded and against facts. He has given 14 days notice to publishers and promoters of such stories for apology otherwise he reserves legal right to move to court of law for defamation charges against newspapers.
