RAWALPINDI, Pakistan: The South African Minister of Defence and Military Veterans Affairs Nosiviwe Noluthando Mapisa-Nqakulaa held a meeting with the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa at the army’s general headquarters in Rawalpindi on Monday.
In a statement, the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said that during the meeting, the two dignitaries exchanged views on issues of mutual interest including defence and security cooperation between Pakistan and South Africa, and overall regional security situation.
The minister expressed her appreciation for Pakistan army’s successes in elimination of terrorism from the Country.
Earlier on arrival at the army’s general headquarters, the South African defence minister laid floral wreath at Yadgar-e-Shuhuda. A smartly turned out contingent of Pakistan army presented the guard of honour to the visiting dignitary.
Pakistan, South Africa sign MoU on defence cooperation
Separately, the South African defence minister signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on ‘Defence and Defence Industrial Cooperation” with Pakistani authorities in Islamabad.
Under the MoU, a Joint Defence Committee will be constituted to pave the way for strengthening and diversifying bilateral defence cooperation. It calls for cooperation in training of the armed forces officers and soldiers, acquisition of defence equipment and joint ventures.
